Anyone know the JD part number for the replacement oil filter? The one the JD dealer gave me is smaller than the one that's on it and I wanted to make sure it will work before installing it. It has the 23.5 hp kawasaki engine. Thanks.

John Deere Part Number is: AM125424
Kawasaki Part Number is: KAW49065-7007

It had the AM125424 on it. The dealer gave me AM107423. Was wondering if these are interchangeable. The original is shorter and fatter where as the replacement taller and slimmer.

I want to say you will be okay since your dealer gave you the filter for your machine as long as it seals properly to the engine, now since the different series of ztaks are very close using the same engines in the B, M, and R series it should work.

I know the AM107423 filter is the model number for my Z930A and also works with the Z960R I have on order.

To be safe and not waste time and oil, I would call the dealer first thing in the morning to double check.

The AM107423 is not the proper filter for the Z920M machines. It may work, but according to the official John Deere parts catalog AM125424 is the filter that should be used. Oil filters can be tricky due to the specs they are designed with. I would strongly urge the use of the filter designed to be used with the engine on your machine.

I went by the dealer today and the parts guy said he should have gave me the original filter but the newer one would be ok to use. After talking to he and the salesman and them assuring me this would not void my warranty I told them I would leave it in place as long as it did t leak. We'll see.

There are two different filters for Kawi engines. Both will work fine. The difference is that one is short and slightly fatter, the other is longer and maybe a tad smaller in diameter. The short filter is designed to work in applications where room for the filter sticking out very far would be a problem. The longer one in more roomy spaces.


I have owned, and still own quite a few Kawi's. Every one of them have come one or the other, but have all been replaced with AM107423. I just did the oil change on my Z950 yesterday. That's the same filter I used, and use every time I change it. Same filter on my 24 YO JD 240 GT. Same filter the was on my GX335, my 445"s, and a couple others. There won't be any problem.

The filter sealed fine and is not leaking. Seems they both might hold about the same amount of oil. The original is short and fat and the replacement is longer and slimmer. I will ask for the original filter next time tho.
