9/11...Ten years later

How many of you remember where you were and what you were doing at the time you got the news of 9/11? While I can barely remember what I was doing a week ago, I will always remember that morning, probably for the rest of my life.

It will give you some idea of how old I am, when I reveal that I still recall where I was and what I was doing at the moment Kennedy was shot, I can even recall the name of the teacher who told us the news.

And one more thing I will never forget is that in the days and weeks that followed, I was never prouder of being an citizen of the United States. God Bless Our Nation.

I was at school. Everything was halted as we watched the news.

I can't remember where I was, but then I would have only been about 6 years old.

Words can't explain how bad an event it was though. Truly awful.

Forgive me, but I thought it happened on the 11th of September ? This is the 2nd...

Correct about the date, but our newspapers and magazines are already full of stories about the "ten years later"...no way does anybody wait until the last minute. Over on TBN somebody started a thread a week ago.

Oh well, there is no point in being exact I suppose.

I think I'm right in saying the one tower that will replace the Twin Towers is due for completion in 2013 ? It will be a bittersweet moment when it is built I'm sure.

I was at work in a truck listening to Howard stern show. His show at the time was in NYC. And reported it live minus the ten second delay. I called the wife and she didn't believe me. He reported it a good 15 min before anything local did.

I just pray nothing like that ever happens again.

In school teaching ...
I had students who had parents in the Pentagon and one Girl's father was at the Pentagon and her mother was on a flight to NY --- this girl didn't know if she had lost both parents that day. It turned out that neither parent was harmed, but she went through HELL that day. Makes me tear up and ANGRY at the same time.

I was taking my youngest to the babysitter when I heard on the radio that a plane had crashed into one of the towers. I thought some idiot in a small plane got caught up in looking at the scenery. When I got to the babysitters, I sat down in front of the TV and was watching when the second plane hit. I knew then what was going on.

I wasn't around when Kennedy was shot, but I do remember where I was and what I was doing when Reagan was shot and when the Challenger blew up. These, along with many others both national and local, are among memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I was in between yards, heard it on the radio, made me confused and furious all at the same time. Just like it did watching the documentary last night.

As everybody probably knows, today is officially 10 years since 9/11.

I'm sure this will be a hard day for a lot of people directly affected by the deplorable event, and my prayers are with them.

Thanks BK, had all my four flags flying and lit last night and will keep them up today and tonight. It doesn't seem like ten years have passed since that day. I hope there is never another day like that in our history that will influence our lives to such an extent.

Most of us here can't wrap our minds around what kind of mentality it would take to do something like that.
From what I understand, the people who do that kind of thing believe that everyone who is not devout Muslim deserves to die and Americans are the worst. To them, America is "the great Satin" !
I just can't understand that mentality!

I was grumbling to my boss yet again because his bosses had decided that to promote a more cohesive work environment they would take my office away and put me in the big cubicle divided room with all the women in the office so that all the operations staff were in one place. I was complaining that I couldn't get my work done because of all the jabbering and gossiping going on. I wanted my upstairs office back because it was away from everyone else and I could concentrate and work in peace. My work days had gone from 9 - 10 hours to 12 or more because I had to stay late to get done after everyone else was gone. The office drama queen came running in crying saying "I don't want to die!" We said in unison "What the heck are you talking about?" Then one of the other girls called in on the speaker phone and said to go to some news channel on the internet. Still makes me laugh at the absurdity of some people when I think about the drama queen. She literally shut down for the rest of the day and kept saying "I don't want to die". We were several hundred miles away in a small building working for a small business and hardly any kind of target for terrorists and yet she was completely paralyzed with fear.

The Koran pretty much says to convert non-believers if possible, enslave them if they won't convert and kill the ones that resist. The fanatics just cut right to the end and kill, its easier for them than the other two options. They never got a New Testament. They live by the Old Testament mentality of an eye for an eye. "Love thy neighbor" only applies if the neighbor is another Muslim, otherwise, all bets are off. Obviously the majority are like the rest of us and are too concerned with their own daily lives to be concerned with such things, but the fanatics give the whole religion a bad name.

I do see your point, but on that day, fear of the unknown was much greater because nobody truthfully understood the extent of the terrorism, or the magnitude of the hatred, or the reasoning behind the attacks. I worked in a 14 story, 1500 occupant office building, we were in central Michigan, thousands of miles away from NYC but we went into full security mode anyhow.

Same here i thought it was an accident until i saw the second plane impact the other tower, and as mentioned i will never forget that moment..
