I have a 87 21" hi vac that I had to rewind the rope and rewind the recoil spring after the rope came off the pulley. I did this and replaced the air filter and blade. Now it won't run. I pull the rope to start and it tries to run at very low rpm and quits. What did I do?
Sorry I didn't get back with you Chet............ You have a very simple issue like a spring is broken or came off when you took the air filter box off........ It's not your Head Gasket for sure.....
I won't be on here for a while but you can call my cell / shop phone if you want to resolve this easily...

It was the head gasket I found all of the head bolts were loose 1 was almost all the way out. The head stayed tight but when I changed the blade and the filter plus re wrapping the recoil spring and putting it back together I must have disturbed the head. I tightened the bolts and it runs like new.
