335E electrical woes

I have a 335E zero turn that is giving me a fit. I had serviced it and was pulling it out to clean it up. Well, it shut down never to restart. The electrical system was dead. Upon further inspection I found the wiring harness had been destroyed by mice. They had stripped about 60-70% of the insulation stripped off the wires. Well,I bought a new harness from John Deere due to the extensive damage. I put the new harness on ,(complete with all new safety switches except the seat switch.) Well, when I went to start it arched on fused board under the black relay. The electrical system is still dead. Any ideas?

Thanks for the diagram. I installed a brand new harness from John Deere with all new safety switches (due to the previous damage from mice.) Now, I am back to square one for no start. You can jump across the starter and it'll turn over but it will not start.

Well does the carburetor fuel solenoid even clicks? Not shown in the cranking circuit but it must operate for the engine to run.

Here is the cranking circuit for you to trace.

Is there a secondary harness on this that needs to be checked as well? Especially under the top engine cover. Those critters can get into some tiny places. They like to build nests and snack on wire insulation. They think the insulation is food because it is made from cooking oil byproducts (Think licorice stick candy)

Actually wiring coating are made from soybeans Mice just loves the stuff. One auto manufacture use it and would the customer to spray down the wiring harness monthly with WD-40. They would replace the wiring harness the first time for free but charge after that.

Were all of the fuses checked carefully. A new harness does not always come with fuses in the fuse box.

Some fuses will blow the center out and are obvious while others will get a hairline crack in them that is hard to see. If any are in doubt replace them.

Never assume any parts that are new are good until they do the actual work.

Was the new harness you purchased using the product identification number on the label? John Deere often has early and late production model number breaks and a lot of changes happen with these number changes.

If the parts person only went by the 335E machine number, you could have the wrong harness (Hope not)
