First time poster and new to the group. Thanks in advance for any help you can throw my way.

I have a 2001 225 that has a factory replacement Kohler 27 hp engine. All was fine until the battery stopped charging. Tested battery and replaced it with a new Interstate. Still doesn’t charge. Changed out the voltage regulator and still no charge. Thought I may have plugged the voltage regulator in backwards so I bought a new one, plugged it in and now it won’t run unless the starter is engaged. I don’t know if I created a new problem or if this is all related. Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect both issues are related. If the key is in the run position do you have battery voltage at the voltage regulator. If standard 15 amp regulator The center pin will be the B+. I am thinking you don't have voltage to the regulator which is also effecting the voltage to the fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carb.

Basically I am thinking you have battery voltage to the fuel solenoid in the start position but not the run position. So either a hidden fuse in the system that sents power to the regulator and solenoid or a bad key switch.
