Just acquired a 218 grasshopper mower. Was just sitting when it kept trying to run without being turned on. Had to disconnect battery in order to make it stop. Has anyone had similar problems and if so possible solutions?

Export threadI'm going to guess it might be the ingition switch. Maybe its corroded.
I have checked that. With the ignition switch and the pto switch disconnected from wiring harness it still tries to start and pto attempts to engage.

follow the power wire from the battery to the solenoid.
check that one lead is hooked up to one side and the lead to the starter motor is hooked up to the other.
next check the power feed wire to the ignition switch, it should go from the battery side terminal up to the ignition switch.
