1976 John Deere 214 Lawn Tractor with a Model 47 (46in) mowing deck. The belt that runs from the engine to the deck (the one that twists) is shot. Went to dealer to pick up a new one and was sold part number M45998. Problem is I still have the cardboard holder from the last belt I bought and it was part number M47765. Looking on-line it appears that there are two different belts for this tractor/deck combo depending on the serial number of the deck. M45998 is supposed to fit up to ser. no. 205648 and M47043 is for ser. no. 205469 and up. My deck ser. no. is 372528M, so this would indicate M47043 is the right belt, but that is different from either of the other two. I'm pretty confused at this point. Anyone here know for sure which belt is the correct one?
Something seems screwy with the serial number. You may need the S/N of the mower vs. the deck.
Call the dealer with all these numbers and let them sort it out before you install the belt.
I do know that they change part numbers of items all along and this may be the case here.
Printing the parts page and taking it to the dealer would help. (to be sure you are talking about the right belt, because it looks like they are at least two.)
