2025 x330- who makes the 22hp engine and is it any good?

A dealer is offering a closeout deal. I'm trying to research but can't find much on the cyclonic v twin 22 hp engine. Is the x330 otherwise just a x350 with fewer features? Thanks?

Briggs and Stratton model # 44J677. Good solid twin cylinder engine.

Is it comparable to a Van Guard? Thank you for your reply!

Thank you and I apologize for not asking this in the same post, but how would you say it compares to a Kohler 7000 and a Kawasaki FR?

I have not seen Perkins make a new engine for years and never seen one in a residential JD mower. You missed some digits on the Briggs and Stratton numbers.

Only the type and factory part of the code is missing as JD's IPL indicates 5 versions of 44J677 are used on that mower and there may even a sixth now.

Hello M.,

The Kohler 7000 has the hydraulic lifters which means no pesky valve adjustment issues. The Kawasaki FR has solid tappets and will require valve adjustment maintenance from time to time.

Both are great engines as long as consistently good fuel is used the oil is changed as required. (No! synthetic oil does not mean you can put off oil changes, so keep that in mind.)

Cost wise, Kawasaki engines cost more, and dealers are charging a "premium price" for the Kawasaki equipped models based on past reputation.

The 7000 does not have hydraulic lifters. Still mechanical lifters since it is the newer version of the Courage twin. The only one using the hydraulic lifters are the Command series engines.

Quality wide about the same, but the Briggs has some upgraded features that the other two don't I would choose either the Kaw or the Briggs over the Rehlko

Sorry ILENGINE,.

My mistake.

I was misinformed when I did a quick internet search this morning. Personally. I mistook the 7000 series as a newer version of the Kohler Command line.
