Toro recycle 22” self propelled mower. Sharpened the blade, it’s balanced. First time using after replacing the blade it struck the side of the deck opposite the mulching guard. Replaced the blade with brand new one, does the same thing. I can see the cut mark in the sidewall. It only hits when it’s reducing velocity while turning off. The shaft is tight, belt is good. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the flimsy front baffle. They are easily bent and can break loose at times.
Are you sure you have the correct blade for your mower? Toro’s 22” mowers have a steel deck. Toro cast deck mowers are 21”. 22” blade on a 21” mower will contact the side.

Whatever size it is the blade is 20”. And it appears to be a cast deck. There’s close to a 0.25” space on the sidewall where the mulching plate is. The opposite side there’s about an o.125” space. When we turn the blades they don’t scrape, only when it is shutting down, weird.
Blade for a 22” Recycler steel deck is part number 131-4547-03 and has a length of 21 & 11/16”
Blade for a 21” Super Recycler cast deck is part number 133-8183-03 and has a length of 20.9”.
So if your blade has a length of 20”, it is definitely not a Toro blade for a Toro mower.
