I have a 1997 616 grasshopper that when I mower with it in about an hour it starts to lug down. I disengage the blades and it runs good. When I disengage and then try to engage the blades again the clutch will not work. I let it set over night and when I go back out the next day it works good. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong. Could it be the clutch? Thank you

that what it sounds like to me.is it the original clutch?...russ
If you post the full model number of you hopper those with trade connections can give you specific information.
In the mean time , check the DC output of the alternator.
Check the battery voltage, the start the mower and check it again,'
The first should be 12V to 13V and the second should be 13V to 15V but it must be higher.
If not your have a charging problem.
I do not know if its is or not. I bought it used. I put a new engine in it about 5 years ago and had to overhaul it 3 year ago. I did not change the clutch. If it has been changed it was before I owned it.
