After now owning two AYP version riding mowers, one a 42" cut, the other 38" cut, I decided I'd like to find an earlier MTD 600 series from the late 80's early 90's. I happened across a Marketplace listing for this Tradesman, a bit pricey but the seller was also interested in trades. I may a trade for it and so far I'm glad that I did. I worked at a smaller hardware store doing their small engine/mower repair back in the mid 90's when these mowers were very plentiful and got to know them very well. What I remember most about these from this time period was how fast they were in both forward and reverse. My AYP mowers are slower than sin in reverse and I wanted something that I knew was much faster. It came with a parts mower (pretty much a whole rider with deck) so I had enough to make it complete the way I wanted it. Pictures are from before I had the deck installed, the ag tires were just put put on it by the seller before I made the trade. I also bought a 1990 White L-8 by MTD recently, but that will be for another thread.20250919_114750_HDR[1].jpg20250919_114918_HDR[1].jpg20250919_154324[1].jpg

That was built back when rider mowers were made for work and not just to be a fancy show piece.... Simple to work on and maintain.

I have always been a fan of any rider built with a steel hood.

The engine code shows it to be a '92, if that is the original engine cover.
