Engine cranks but will not start. Here's what works
Gas to carburetor is fine so fuel pump workd
Gets spark so ignitor and coil work. Replaced both a few years ago.
I cleaned all the jets in the carb. Float works normally. Replaced gaskets
New air filter and cleaner
What would cause engine not to start. With engine in choke position then put in normal
running position then back to choke the engine will backfire and flash a flame through the
air cleaner.
What else could it be causing the engine not to start.

Dropped valve push rod is one. Another is a sheared flywheel key. Also loss of compression.

Sounds like your timing is off. That’s normally why your engine is back firing through the carburetor.

I also think the shear pin on the flywheel could be busted.

Stuck valve

Problem solved. Took the tractor to my local JD Dealer. Ended up being a stuck needle valve in the carburetor. Runs like new. Thanks everyone.

Well I figured you cleaned the carburetor but apparently you didn't.
