i went to start a riding mower this year for the first time since stored last fall ,the motor runs so fast its going to blow the throtle seems to operate ok left the gas in it last year could the carburator have anything to do with it i cant bring it down to idle runs wide open or is the governor shaft have problems inside the engine. its a columbia riding mower with 18 hp single cylinder Kohler engine would like to get it running if i can thanks.

Remove the air cleaner housing and make sure the throttle shaft is moving freely. Have seen them rust tight over storage periods.

thanks ill try that hope thats the problem

Also look down the throat of the carb, the throttle shaft screws have a bad habit of coming loose and getting sucked into the engine, then the loose throttle plate sticks wide open.
