Both of my MTD lawnmowers start with the starting fluid but stall after a second of running. I changed the air filters, later just removed them for testing purposes. Checked the spark plugs (just in case), removed the carburetors and cleaned the bowl bolts, one was in pristine conditions, the other was clogged. Changed the gaskets on both bolts and bowls (on one the gaskets were really bad, so I got a rubber gasket at the NAPA autoparts, the fuel resistant one, since I could not find any place to buy the fiber one). Still the same result, starts goes for a sec or so and dies. Any ideas what could be wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

How about supplying us with the model number of the engine as well as the model number of the mower so we can what you are working on.

Sorry, I don't know why but all images are upside down. On my computer they are all in correct alignment

From your description sounds like a fuel delivery issue. You said you cleaned the bowl nuts but sometimes the tube going from the nut into the carb venturi can also get clogged with junk fuel. Also it may not be a bad idea to remove the engine blower housings and make sure the plastic intake tube hasn't been cracked or the mounting bolts come loose.

It is the fuel delivery problem. I cleaned up one of the floating bowl bolt jets and one of the machines started running. The other one still coughs about 2 secs and dies. I purchased a new carburetor for the other mower, will just replace the whole thing.

Changed carburator in the other lawn mower. Works like a clock now, starts from the first pull and goes on without coughing. Thank you
