I put the engine from a Simplicity 5116 in a Simplicity 5216. The 5116 engine doesn't have a little condenser like part on the carburetor like the 5216 did will this effect the motor being able to start since that wire isn't connected to anything?
Make sure you put a shut off petcock in line before the carb so you don't flood the crank case with gas when you shut it down. The solenoid is there to shut the gas valve when you turn off the engine. 12 v constant keeps it open while its running.
the solenoid only stops fuel in the float bowl entering the main jet and going into the engine.
IT DOES NOT & NEVER WILL PREVENT AN OVERFLOWING FLOAT BOWL FLOODING INTO THE ENGINE WHILE THE ENGINE IS STOPPED.
Sorry to shout but it is important people understand which does what.
And yes it is prudent to put an inline fuel tap between the tank & the engine but that has nothing to do with the solenoid.
You and a lot of others.
Decades ago an overflowing bowl vented to the outside and dribbled down the side of the carb so you knew it was happening.
The EPA banned this so it dribbles inside the carb so you do not know it till you go to start the engine by which time it is too late.
