I have a Gravely PM260Z mower with a Kohler Command CV25s (spec 69536 sn 2923572521), showing about 1500 Hrs
My plan was to do basically a ring and valve service, but it looks as if the piston rings are NLA, requiring new pistons. This is a 1999 model year engine
Question for you Kohler gurus:
- Are these early Commands worth rebuilding, even given the cost of pistons? (I believe a new engine is ~ $2,300)
- Assuming crank, rods, and cyl bores are OK, what typically requires replacement (eg, lifters, valves, valve springs, rings, governor internals)?
- Are there aftermarket rings available?
- Does the gasket/seal kit come with the factory modification to oil pump pick up area to prevent aeration/lifter noise? (this engine clatters loudly when hot)
(I have done ring and valve service on a couple of Vanguard Vtwin motors with good results)
Thanks!
