12.5hp briggs and stratton air/fuel mixture problem

Hi everybody!

My briggs and stratton has been annoying me lately. When it runs, it hunts when at half throttle or higher and when I turn the air/fuel mixture screw to stop the hunting it does absolutely nothing. Also if I try to make it idle slow it starts to hunt and then eventually shuts off. I have replaced the needle valve, the bowl and gasket, and have soaked it in kerosine to clean it.

FYI: when I got this mower it had water and ice in the fuel line. The bowl also had rust on the bottom.

kerosene is okay to clean your tools and a few other things, But it won't do a lot of good cleaning your carb. You will need a cleaner that is More aggressive, you very well might need to use small wire to mechanically clean some of the passages... Follow up with compressed air. and good gaskets when reassembling. :smile:KennyV
