    Camshaft wear

Hello, all. I'm working on this older Craftsman riding mower 917.272761 with a Briggs 31H777-0202-E1 Single cylinder engine. It runs smooth, but won't get up to speed, despite wide open throttle. It also cranks kind of hard. So I thought valve adjustment, maybe the gap is too wide and the...

    Heavy oil consumption and smoke

Hello again. This is actually a question on a Honda knock-off, it's a DuroStar 16HP on a DS10000e generator. Smoking really bad, smells of oil burning. My first instinct was bad oil ring, but when I dug in, the cylinder is beautiful, the piston top is shiny, a bit of carbon however in the...

Generator runs rough after LP conversion

Hey, folks! I'm working on a BlackMax 7000 Generator with a GX 390 Honda that was recently converted to propane. It runs fine on LPG, but when switched to run on gasoline, it surges and backfires a little when under load. The load is approximately 4500 watts, so well within the capacity of...

    Anybody know from Lincoln welders?

Hey, y'all. Wasn't sure where to post this, but I was hoping someone here has some experience with welder/generators. I'm working on a Lincoln Ranger 9 Welder that is putting out low voltage, like 70 VAC. I know the problem isn't the engine, or the governor settings, but on the generator side...

    Go Kart Electrical Issue

Hello, folks. I am working on this "Yerf Dog" go kart with no determinable make or model number that I can find, but from what I can tell, a typical setup with a 110cc engine, stator, ignition module like a moped would have, etc. The operator controls are limited to a start button, an on/off...

    need help identify this rider

Really would expect it to have a longer model number. Sometimes you need the serial number too, to narrow down parts. I hope the data plate wasn't removed or painted over.

    LT1500 pedal extension?

I have had a customer bring in for service a John Deere with wood block extensions. Just 2x4 blocks held on with hose clamps. I offered to make something else for her, but she said she was happy with what she had. And she was substantially shorter than 5'3". If I made them, I would consider...

new guy, old 21" walk behind pics

Nice. I'd like to see those, especially that reel rider. I got one of them old Snappers too, not sure what I'm going to do with it. Other than that, a couple of other interesting old mowers i got in the yard are an old walk behind Snapper, and two Toro 2-stroke commercial mowers. Not sure right...

    Kohler 23 hp choke/throttle hookup?

Well, I think the biggest difference (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that your picture is a top view, and his is a front view. Your linkages seem to be laying flat, on the top of the engine, and his are down low and vertical in front of the engine, below the carb. Of course, the quick test...

    Question about 4-cycle trimmer

So far, most of the 4 stroke trimmers I have run across do have oil in the sump, It's only like 3 ounces, and they have a fill plug. This is true for Honda, Craftsman, Troy-Bilt, Ryobi, and huskys. The pics below show locations of oil fill/drain. On the other hand, I have also seen the ones...

    2 cycle flooding

Hello all This pertains to almost any 2 stroke, but for argument's sake, this is the one giving me a headache at the moment. I have a Craftsman chainsaw that I serviced, and although it runs great, when it's sitting fuel will force it's way past the carb and flood the crank case. I can...

    Autochoke link and bi-metalic thermostat

Ok, i just checked, and you have the linkage right, you just got to re-bend the rod so it looks more like the one in the picture. The way you got it, it is too straight, and pushing too hard on the choke. Got to bend it to shorten it up.

    New Guy from New Mexico

Hello, all. I been exploring the forum for about a week or so, getting a feel for it and the members, and helping a bit where I can. I think I'll be hanging out here a bit, y'all seem pretty cool. I run a small shop out of my garage, just a notch or two up from shade tree mechanic. There are...

    Filter Changing Without a Mess

I make my oil drain guides out of old aluminum siding, so I can reuse them. They have a lip at the back which hooks behind the filter, preventing any mess while unscrewing. Whenever I come across an application when i don't have one that fits, i just pull out the snips and make another. I keep...

    Help!! HONDA HRZ216TDA No Spark

I have come across a few mowers that have the safety switch/flywheel brake hung up, like BlazNT said. When you pull down the bar before you pull the cord, make sure the switch is opening properly. Sometimes due to fatigue, the bracket will eventually bend enough to where the kill switch never...

HRR2163TDA rear drive is actually spinning backwards. What could cause this?

The axle will look like it's spinning backwards, that's normal. Once it engages the gear on the drive tire, the tire will go forward. If you were to line up a bunch of gears running off each other, every other one would go the opposite direction. Either that, or your tires have the gear...

Craftsman mower deck brake bar broke??

Here's another still from another video. Just enough of a peek to piss you off. It definitely goes to #5, and I would put it on with very little slack. The cable pulls the right brake, and the rod should pull the other one pretty much equally. For the brake to engage properly, there should...

Craftsman mower deck brake bar broke??

Ok, I see where you are at now. No disrespect taken. The Sears Parts Direct website does have a nasty habit of leaving out certain models. But I think I found the diagram you are talking about on the partstree web site. It is hard to tell, but the bar goes from one brake bar to the other...

Craftsman mower deck brake bar broke??

Look at the model number, witch is on a sticker usually under the seat. Probably something like 917288570. Go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com , put that number in the search (make sure to put "model number" in the "search by" box), and you can pull up the parts diagrams from there.
