Replaced plug and magneto but still no spark. Wonder if it has anything to do with the wiring that relates to the yellow wire attached to the magneto? Could I either disconnect the wire or ground it to bypass any issues with the wiring (safety switches failing, perhaps) I tried it both ways...

I have a Toro mower with a Kohler engine. It appear to have a faulty carburetor solenoid. My question is what causes the solenoid to open? How is it energized? Is it just an on and off or does it open when the bowl needs gas? And if so how does it know?
