    steering bushing confusion

Added a second coating of JB Weld last night and today it all seems strong and a whole less sloppy. (The steering still works so I've got that going for me.) I won't know how strong until I actually use it. The black 227 fit the cross member hole but was too big for the steering column, The...

    Another steering question.

OK.....that makes sense. Thank you. The replacement of the bushings with bearing, in my case, sounds like a judgement call as far as value of the replacement goes. The bushings are original (2015) but look like new, I've kept them greased and the wheels turn freely with no wobble. Guess I'll...

    Another steering question.

Yes, I understand all that...I'm having a hard time understanding how the front wheels rolling easier makes it steer easier. If it affected tire to ground contact I could understand that. As long as the tires are turning freely I don't see such a minor improvement doing much for the steering or...

    Another steering question.

I've installed needle bearings as per the various on line articles about the "poor man's power steering" and my Gt52XLSi definately steers easier. I've yet to understand how replacing perfectly good wheel bushings with bearings will make it steer easier yet. Can someone enlighten me? Is it...

    steering bushing confusion

And the tale continues.....I bought two of the white (228), they went down the shaft with a little help. I cut a piece of 1" pvc to the correct angle to tap them in. The first one refused to go in the hole and broke...may have been my fault as there was some dirt residue around the hole. Cleaned...

I measured the steering column, it's 5/8 so I ordered two of the white 228. Thanks again.

Must be the labels are wrong on the tractor. I really appreciate all the help. Tom

    It's a Briggs. 141222YG. 2014,Dec.22? And 228 would be the right bushing?

    steering bushing confusion

WHOA! This was sold to me, by a dealer, as a 2015 unit in 2015. The model number behind the seat has the numbers 178-00. Under the hood the model numbers end at 178. Looks like it was at least two years old when I bought it. I'm not very pleased if this is true...

    steering bushing confusion

This is what I'm pulling up on different sites and it may or may not mention bottom steering support but none that I've found mention the specific upper support or bushing that I need.

    steering bushing confusion

I wasn't aware there were two bushings! I'd better crawl under the mower again. All the diagrams I've seen only mention one. Well, as long as you guys can figure out what I'm talking about......Thankyou.

    steering bushing confusion

If I use that part (the B2) I'll have to drill holes to mount it. What came out was a white version of this cheap plastic thing. The part you showed is what it should have but doesn't.....I think. That part looks metal. maybe I'd be better off trying to make that work if it is!

    steering bushing confusion

Short story is, I own a 2015 GT52XLSi. The steering was real sloppy so I added a washer to the top of the steering stem and that helped. I checking out the steering bushing - it was worn and loose. That bushing was a round white plastic job but the on line diagrams shows a B2 bomber shaped thing...

I bought my tractor in '15 and I believe it was a '14 model. The smart switch quit one month before the warranty ran out and the dealer honored the warranty. I think the cost for the stinking thing was around $100 back then and thank goodness it's been fine since (KOW). Hard to believe the price...

Yikes! I don't even know what a loom is! Can a dealer do this....and any ballpark figure on cost?

The mower has always been a dog going up hills....and I have hills. Before it started acting up I was mowing an area that is always wet and muddy. Because I run ag tires and chains year round, and they throw mud like it's a professional sporting event, I'm thinking mud got on something and had...

Mowed yesterday. The tractor acted like it was going to start slipping making the first pass up the hill. The second pass was a little better and by the third pass it acted fine. I suspect if something was causing the slippage it dislodged itself. (KOW). I should probably change the belt anyway...

Motorman, just getting back on here again, finally, and am wondering if it was ever decided if the tranny oil needed to be changed or/and if it was sealed. Last time I mowed with my GT52XLSi it almost stopped going up a hill, trying it later it acted like it wanted to and finally went up...

    Husqvarna frames

For years the claim was Husqvarna garden tractors were just glorified lawn tractors because of wimpy frames. I just saw a Husky ad for a TS348XD claiming a sturdier 11 gauge bolted frame. Is this frame actually any stronger than the frame on my old XLSi ?

    New Toro PP

My old Craftsman died and I decided to try a dealer Toro. Two models fit my needs and price range and, with the salesman help, I bought the PP20372 with the China engine over the other model with a B&S motor. Main reason...salesman claimed China motor had less plastic and better overall motor...

    which tires?

With this big storm suppose to hit today I dred going out and having to plow. The Husqvarna snow plow is hard to use when it freezes up (wish I'd bought the dozer blade) but the tractor sliding trying to push the snow makes it worse. I have the Husqvarna Gt52XLSi with the locking differential so...
