Lawn Boy 5024 Brick top float question

eBay has plenty of available floats and needle valves for your mower. Some people choose to go with the modern plastic float, but when I rebuilt the carb on my 5024 a couple years ago, I just went with the original cork float. I figured that the first one lasted 44 years, so the new one should...

    5024 High Rpm issues

Sounds like the governor rod is binding. It’s the small bent rod that runs from the throttle linkage to up under the shroud. First thing is to make sure that it moves freely and that the linkage should be approximately at the 11 o’clock position. The large adjustment knob you were turning is the...

Model 5277; can anyone help ID the year?

Yours should be a 1980 model since Lawn Boy rolled the serial numbers back to 000000001 for 1980. You have yourself a good solid Lawn Boy. L8R, Matt

    Lawn boy smokes a lot

Another thing to check is the muffler. It could be loaded with oil sludge and is burning it off. Pull the blade off if necessary, then pull the muffler. If it’s a two piece muffler, split it apart and use some carb/brake cleaner to clean the sludge. If it’s a one piece muffler, hopefully you...

    Lawn boy smokes a lot

Actually Lawn Boy specifies in the owners and service manuals to use a quality TC-W3 rated oil when not using Lawn Boy brand 2 stroke oil. L8R, Matt

    Engine Swap?

Unfortunately that’s the way things work sometimes. But now you know that everything swaps over. The only thing is swapping an engine from a steel deck to aluminum, you have to use the muffler plate that’s for the deck. The engines are the same, just the muffler plates are a little different...

    Engine Swap?

Should be a straight swap since both are F engines and have aluminum decks. L8R, Matt

    M series won’t start

If you’re getting spark but it won’t even cough on starting fluid, next stop is to check the flywheel key to see if it’s been sheared. L8R, Matt

Same here. I was going to restore my 5024 Bricktop, but I love mowing with it. I alternate my two Lawn Boys every week for mowing. L8R, Matt

2 Stroke Oil recommendation for 10525 6.5 hp Gold Series

Currently I am running Pennzoil XLF in my 5024 Bricktop and 7262 and like it. But pulling the muffler later on to check the ports will let me know more about how it’s burning. Even though the Duraforce is more modern than my D433 and D600 engines, I have an email directly from Amsoil stating...

    Too Much Vibration. Model 7268

Did you align the blade how Lawn Boy describes? Some mowers it makes a difference, some it doesn’t. On your F Series engine, set the piston at TDC then align the blade so it runs from carb to spark plug. Also make sure your blade adapter isn’t bent. New ones are easily found. L8R, Matt

    Lawn-Boy 7261 21" (1972)

I remember reading this too, but I think it was for heat expansion. I’ll have to look around to see if I can find it for sure. L8R, Matt

    The Smell

I used to use Klotz in my old Penton Six Day Trials bike when I ran hare scrambles and just plain old trail riding fun. Nothing can compare to that smell. L8R, Matt

Lawn-Boy 5124 need help removing from deck

Yep. Pull the muffler off then there are three bolts holding the engine to the muffler plate. Then you can unbolt the muffler plate from the deck if you want it completely stripped down. L8R, Matt

    Lawn-Boy 7261 21" (1972)

The Off/On switch, primer bulb, and fuel shutoff can all be found on eBay easily. I think the switch and shutoff valve will be the most expensive at around $18 each. L8R, Matt

    Lawn-Boy 7261 21" (1972)

The bagger should work just fine for you. I just bought an NOS bagger kit #89814, and it fits both my 1973 #7262, which is identical to your 7261, and also my 1975 #5024 Bricktop. I was looking up the differences between the 89814 and 89817, and the only thing I could find different is the 89817...

First Mowing of the Year With My Bricktop!

I was finally able to mow for the first time with my trusty 1975 Lawnboy 5024. She fired up on the second pull and never stopped until after I shut the fuel valve off. Man, I love the sound of a vintage 2 stroke! There's just something about that buzzy sound from the old D-433 and D-600 engines...

Engine what oil for my 1966 110

Well here’s a screenshot from the actual Kohler owners manual. But personally, if the engine has not been rebuilt, I’d run a good 15w40 oil. And here’s the link to read through the entire manual. It’s just for the Kohler engine, not the John Deere 110 manual...

Lawn Boy 2 cycle Ashless oil

Lawn Boy DOES recommend using a TW-C3 approved oil when not using Lawn Boy oil. Unlike chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, etc... Lawn Boy run at a much lower RPM and have a forced air cooling setup. Thus the recommendation of an ashless 2 stroke oil. L8R, Matt
  27. AnthemBassMan

    10323 no compression

Correct! For years I was in the camp of using only air cooled 2 stroke oil because I never had a manual. But low and behold, it’s right there straight from Lawn Boy that if you don’t use the LB oil, you are to use a TWC-3 that is certified by the NMMA. LB engines turn at a slower RPM and use...

    Freebie LB 7262...

Hey there. I picked up a free non running 7262 with a D600 series engine a few days ago. The magnesium deck is in pretty rough shape, but after a couple hours of working on it, I got it running and mowing. Surprisingly, this thing is running somewhat decent with a broken throttle shaft spring...

Haven't heard much about excessive rust on the Craftsman's. This is a pic of my 1991 Craftsman II mower. It's sporting the beastly 3.5hp Tecumseh engine... L8R, Matt
