My, new to me, LT 1042 Kohler valve cover gasket (I hope) is leaking. From what I've seen/heard it's a common problem. Would putting a gasket sealant on the gasket or just using an automotive gasket maker like Permatex work better?

Just bought a well used 1042. Found the muffler off of the exhaust pipe. Bolt holes deformed & enlarged. So I used a coat hanger to, at least, keep the muffler on the exhaust pipe. Is there supposed to be some kind of fitting in the muffler to seal around the exhaust tube because there is...
