Wisconsin Model TJD / THD adding charging system

Has anyone had any experience, adding a charging system, magnets and stator, to a Wisconsin Model TJD \ THD engine built in January 1966? Is it necessary to replace the flywheel, if so by which one? From what I have muddled together flywheels with part numbers ENA 100 or ENA 101 should fit the...

Replacing an original engine with a modern one

Don't think that is quite the right title so here goes: Other than the Hp rating between old, original, and modern engines is there any difference in the power, torque, rpms available? If a new 6.5 Hp was used to replace an original 7 Hp, how badly would it affect the performance. I would...

    Changing motors

I have been told that I own a Model L with a 7.6 Hp Kohler. For various reasons it is not running and at minus 40 degrees it is too cold to work on. The only good thing is that at -40 it is generally too cold to snow. I have acquired 16 Hp and 18 Hp Kohler motors, can they be used...

    Custom Built Hit n' Miss

I have just uploaded, I hope, a photo with the same name I saw this "tractor" at a Steam and Antique Tractor Show at Milton Ontario. It was in the line up for the mini-tractor pull, did not get to see it pull; good reason to go back.

Snow mobile motor on a Gravely?

Well, I have snowmobile with a busted frame and a good motor and a Gravely with a good frame and a busted motor. Can I exchange the motors? Other than challenge of mounts and adapters a good idea or waste time? Mind you, a track mounted rototiller or mower does have a certain appeal.

    Bottom end is gone,

I was just informed that my 7.6 hp C8 Gravely, that the bottom end was gone, maybe a spun rod bearing. Does this mean, the piston is no longer attached to the crankshaft? Is it repairable or do I have a new lawn ornament? Thanks John 滴e who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who...

What have I bought? An update

It is turning over nicely, good spark, just can not get to stay running more the two times. Considering using a trigger sprayer and squirting directly into the carb. Occasional back fires, right into your face. Using a rope One day I will remember to get the serial numbers in the same place...

    Wanted Bolen Grill

My brother had the grill for his ca. 1957 Bolen Versa-Matic Model 15FC03! two wheeled tractor stolen. He would appreciate your assistance in locating another one so that he can complete the restoration. If you encounter anyone selling one in Southern Ontario, it might be hot! Any assistance...

    Which engine have I got?

First many thanks to those who answered my last question. I was finally able to get through the snow drift to take photos of the engine that needs to be rebuilt, and perhaps now that the snowmobile season is ending it might get overhauled in time for planting. What model of engine do I have...

    How big is too big?

I think I asked the wrong questions in "Replace vs Rebuild". I have a 12hp Gravely Commercial that needs a new engine. It is a little under powered using the rototiller. What would be the biggest Hp engine that the tractor will handle, without altering the frame etc? Rebuilding kits are...

    Replace vs Re-power

Is there any benefit to replacing an engine instead of rebuilding? Cost Years of service Gas vs Diesel? Reliability (they don't make stuff like they used to) Would it be better to re-power a 12 hp Gravely Commercial, over 15 years old, that is used mainly for ploughing and tilling a clay...

    Rebuild vs Replace

Is there any value in rebuilding an engine, over 15 years old, compared with replacing it? If it is replaced would it be worth while to increase the horse power? The engine is on a 12hp Gravely Commercial, that it is used for tilling and ploughing in a heavy clay loam soil. Thanks John

    New Member

Hi, I am John, mostly I try to track down parts for friends. In August my brother owned an early 1950s Gravely, smokes a little until it is warm, with two mower heads, a rototiller, and a rotary plough. In September he bought a newer tractor with a snow blower and a box full of unknown parts...
