    Carburetor problem

oldntired55, I ended up re-cleaning the nut that holds the fuel bowl with a soft wire. I never saw any debris, but there must have been something in the base of the nut that moved upward when the engine tried to run. Thanks for responding.

    Hard starting mower

Auto Doc's, You are correct the flywheel key is partially sheared. The flywheel puller holes are blank, no threads. I pried the flywheel upward with a large screwdriver and hit the crankshaft with a brass hammer that weighs about 2lbs, but the flywheel would not move. I will try this again. If I...

    Hard starting mower

Hello, I am working on Craftsman lawn mower 124L02 1307F1 09010758. It takes about 6 pulls to start, and usually backfires and jerks the pull rope. When it does start, it sounds like it pings for a few seconds like a car engine with over advanced spark timing. After this happens, the performance...

    Carburetor problem

StarTech, SGKent, and TigerSmall Engine, I learned a lot from your advice. The Berryman sounds better than either. Leaving the welch plug alone is helpful. I will pay more attention to the fuel bowl nut next time. Thank you for all the advice. Ken

    Carburetor problem

StarTech, I thought I cleaned the nut. But evidently spraying the aerosol did not do what was needed. I just used a soft copper wire, about the diameter of a horse hair. I did not see what the culprit was, but perhaps old eyes did not help. I had to give a shot of either and it continued to run...

    Carburetor problem

Hello, I am working on a Craftsman 6hp B/S lawnmower #122K02 0577. It will start on either, but only runs for a few seconds. The mower sat in a shed unused for about 2 years. I replaced the old fuel, and put a rebuild kit in the carb. I have sprayed aerosol brake cleaner and air from a...

    B/S Lawnmower - No spark

I changed spark plugs, cleaned the magnets on the flywheel and coil, removed the ground wire from the coil, but could not get a spark. The gap between the coil and the flywheel is .010. The ohms between the coil legs and the spark plug wire lead, and the coil ground wire lead and spark plug...
