I'm planting my garden using 4 foot by 20 foot strips about 2 to 3 feet apart and leaving a 2 to 3 foot space between them. I'm wondering if a riding mower would be best to mow the strips if I leave them in grass. Does anyone have any thoughts?
I'm planning to have a large garden this year. I'm planting it differently than the norm. I'll be using 4 foot by 20 foot areas with about a 3 foot space between them. I haven't decided what to use for those spaces, but I'm only going to want to till the 4 foot by 20 foot areas that I'll be...
I cut my grass too low last fall and now I have to reseed my yard. I knew better and am very disappointed since I had cut it higher all summer. What height do you cut your grass?
I know you would think I'd know this since I live in Kentucky, but I moved here from Indiana. I hear a lot about Kentucky Bluegrass. That's a type of grass, right? Does it really have a bluish color? Do people use it for their yards?
After a couple of weeks of spring-like weather, we're supposed to get a couple of inches of snow tonight. They're saying it could be heavier in some areas, and I sure do hope that's not where I live. It looks like I might be removing snow again.
We need to plant grass seed on most of our yard because I mowed it low last year and most of it has died. We need the hardiest grass for high traffic yards that's available. What would that be?
The people we bought our home from planted ivy and lots of it. Is there any way to get rid of it without using chemicals? We don't want to completely eliminate it, so how can we contain what we want to keep?
My wife wants to grow part of her garden in 4' by 20' areas and wants grass that can be cut between them. Can you get a plow and disk that narrow for small garden tractors?
I've thought about using cold frames to start seeds in the late winter and early spring. If the temperatures are in the 30's during the day and even cooler at night, how can you keep them warm enough to sprout the seeds?
I want to plant different types of mint, but I don't want it taking over the yard. I don't want to plant it in pots that sit above the ground, either. What are some techniques for planting invasive plants in the ground that will help contain them to one spot?
I have an old mower that wasn't running quite right. About the time I was going to try to fix it, I pulled the cord to start it and it caught on fire. I got it out, but it was pretty much gone by the I did. Is there anything you can do with an old, burned up lawn mower besides throw it away?
My lawn looks good except for one spot where a couple of trees shade it. I've tried several types of grasses, but none have grown in that one spot. Is there any type of grass that really grows in shady areas? I'd even be interested in knowing if there is any type of low-growing plant that...
Are there any shrubs that provide color in the fall? I know there's a Red Twig Dogwood, but I don't want a tree. Are there any shrubs that have color on their branches, either all the time or in the fall?
