Totally disagree but I think you're comparing a push mower and I use a 25HP zero turn with great results and have for years!

I have done exactly what Star Tech and Ilengine have described and works great. Needed mower to pull a chain harrow before seeding a field and the deck was not needed and caused problems. I was also able to re-install clutch and deck to continue to use it as a mower.

The Briggs and Stratton store on Amazon has the heads for 187.21 for # 1 and 146.10 for #2 (not Prime but free shipping). These are genuine Briggs and Stratton and B&S has a store on Amazon.

I agree that the starter is a possible cause but a weak firing coil could be the issue as well. I had same issue on a JD Z445 and after many hours diagnosing replaced coils and no more problem.

Correct. Should be set to .02-.04mm

When you adjusted the coil gap did you rotate the engine to the contact point? That gap does not look right for the area shown in picture

As others have said don't buy a battery because of the warranty. NAPA and Interstate will be more expensive but it's like buying 3 of the cheap ones to 1 of these. And I'm not aware of any battery dealer that warrants a mower battery longer than 6 months.

I've always had problems with batteries from HD, Lowes or discount auto parts stores. I get mine from NAPA or Interstate. I get 3 years out of them .

I agree, You should have replaced one at a time to determine what failed. Now you don't know which one was the problem for future issues. But it's working and time to mow.

Why not just buy a mower more suited to your mowing needs or mow more often. I read this thread in amazement that this would even exist for a single cylinder engine. I guess you can sell anything to someone who doesn't know better!

Thanks guys! I wasn't taking into consideration the aluminum block and bolt size and only what it took to remove the bolts. But the bolts were probably oxidized to the block making them seem tighter than they were. I'll use the 38 Ft lbs and see what happens. Just didn't seem right! And yes...
