Thanks for the reply to my other post "rusty gas tank" too. After I dug into the carb and took it off I realized it was a plastic (composite) carb. The 450 Series model 90000 Briggs carb is all new to me. It is such a simple thing. It mounts atop of the gas tank a with few screws, has one...
Yes, that sounds about right. I have been thinking about just keeping the tank full of gas. I don't remember where I heard that from but as long as it is full of gas the tank won't rust. Is that likely to be true? What do you think? Thanks for the reply.
Well, this island I live on is very very humid. I never left the mower out and always put it inside my workshop. I have noticed that some of the tools I bought here in the Phils are also rusting out and they are inside. I believe they were made from cheap materials and not coated. During the...
What do you all think about using a radiator sealant? I can get that over here. I checked Lazada for parts like gas tanks for the Briggs but all they carry are just the maintenance stuff like carb springs and carbs. Thanks.
That's ok, we don't have seasons as such here in the Philippines. Just Hot, hot, hot, and hot.
How about silicone sealant, I can get that through Lazada. Although, I don't know if it will be liquid I could use inside a gas tank. Thanks.
I let a quantity of rust remover inside the tank overnight. Then I flushed that out with diesel. Looks like the rust is gone but it is not shiny inside or anything like that. Scrub cadet suggested I seal the inside of the tank with Por 15 sealer. I went to the hardware store and asked for that...
That's a good idea to seal it. I'll have to look and see what kind of sealer I can get here. I am pretty sure they have some sort of metal sealer at the hardware store. I doubt it will be Por-15 but will see what I can get. Have a great day and thanks for the help.
Were you insulted by the word "wait'? If so, I apologize. I merely mentioned it was plastic, something I didn't know myself until I pulled it off. I figured it needed a soak because of the surging the motor did when it did run and the fact I had never had it apart before. This new composite...
Hello folks. After cleaning my carb on my Briggs I found that the gas tank was all rusty inside. Any ideas on what I should soak that thing in? Thanks.
I like that idea and will give it a try. I will have to use some other detergent though, can not get dishwasher tablets here. Thanks for the reply sounds good. Have a great day.
Ha Ha. Well, there's grass here too that needs cutting. I live on Camiguin Island near the big island of Mindanao. Not much here in the way of lawn and motor accessories so I have to McGyver most of the lawnmower stuff. Right now I'm waiting on carb springs from the States. My mower surges...
Does anyone know any household substance that would do as a carb soak? I cannot get carb cleaner here on this tiny south pacific island I live on so I must improvise. Nor can I get an air filter. Anyway I can use something else as an air filter? Thanks.
I have a mower that has a Briggs Classic 450 series Model 90000 engine. I have no problem really with the engine but the linkages of the carb give me a fit. I have the two carb springs on order. I cannot run the mower, of course, without the springs, the engine just surges.
I bought the mower in...
