I'll probably hold off as this one hasn't run in a while and will no doubt have issues.

Self Propelled Lawn Boy's - Need Some Schooling

Hey guys, saw a 8237 for sale pretty cheap, figuring it needs work. Not sure if this is a "dog drive" or not. Its got the steel grooved rollers that push on the rear wheels. My Dad had one of these years back, but I never used it. This drive set up work OK on hills and maybe damp grass (got...

Yep, Cincinnati area. Thanks for the info, some research suggests I'd prefer the 3 speed set up. Also, looking to keep search local.

Self Propelled Lawn Boy's - Need Some Schooling

FuzzyDriver, I'm on SW Ohio. How good are the self propelled LB's? Do they work well? Primarily thinking of hill in back yard, I'm not getting any younger. My push mower is fine, just thinking this might make my life a bit easier, but only if they reliably work well.

Self Propelled Lawn Boy's - Need Some Schooling

Thinking of trying to score a self propelled Lawn Boy, must be 2 stroke, for the hill in the back yard. Are the drive units all the same over the years, all belt driven? Are they reliable with some maintenance, I know they are RWD, my Dad had one years ago, but he killed the mower some how...

    Governor vane set set up

I just sort of went thru this on my mower as the spring got accidently knocked off while mowing under a spruce tree. I would just set it at say 4 clicks from fastest setting, get it to run, then use tach of some sort to measure RPM. Then turn faster or slower to get to correct speed. Manual...

X21ZPN 2 Stroke LB Help Needed

FuzzyDriver, thanks for the help, it took 2 clicks of the wheel to slow it down and get it sounding just like it used to. Used my ancient dwell tach and on full throttle (which i never really run) it reads 6500 rpm, which works out to 3250. Half throttle reads 5400 or really 2700 rpm. My LB...

X21ZPN 2 Stroke LB Help Needed

Thanks, just checked my service manual, it states 3000 - 3300 rpm at normal setting, whatever normal is. In the next day or so, i should be able to adjust it to say 3000 at fast or max setting (can't recall what is states on throttle lever at the moment). Thanks again, think I got it.

X21ZPN 2 Stroke LB Help Needed

Interessting, I did exactly that with my old Craftsman dwell tach from many years ago, it pegged it at 6000 rpm. i'll need to look, but don't think it goes higher. Anyhow my mower is spinning at 3000 rpm minimum.

X21ZPN 2 Stroke LB Help Needed

Yeah, got lucky here, mowed back yard before the rain, seemed to run well (as always). Would like to check rpm, but don't have a tach, going by sound good enough?

X21ZPN 2 Stroke LB Help Needed

Hi, Just joined forum as I've never had any issues with my 2 stroke Lawn Boy in 30+ years. I've got as S21ZPN (S/N G263C0763) that I was using this morning to mow. I am original owner of this machine and love it! Unfortunately, I pushed it under a mostly dead spruce and a short branch must...
