i have a 3HP b&s horizontal shaft on an edger that starts first pull also, i tell ya, its the seafoam i treat it with

put your hand over carb while cranking to see if that does anything also

heres what you can do, take a air compressor with a blower tip and fit it in the fuel line and press the handle to blow air while cranking the engine

do you have choke all the way closed when starting?

the setting for the mixture screw is turn in until snug, and then back out 1 and a 1/4 to 1 and a 1/2

get a new battery

try shooting some starting fluid in the carburetor and see if it runs for a few seconds.

check your whole fuel system: your fuel lines, fuel filter, gas tank for debris etc. carb is most likely clogged too

is your spark plug working? fuel lines too maybe?

I have this riding mower that won’t move but it will catch a little bit every once in a while. I’m pretty sure it’s not the belt, not the pulleys, the manual move lever is pushed in so it can drive. I really can’t figure out what is the problem. Help appreciated.

I’m confused, are you saying set the valves to .004 and then set it to .002? Why?

btw what do you mean by "no joy and adjust inlet down to 0.002" so it isn't really common for the compression release to fail on my 283H07? it was just for the 21-31 series that had the failing cam?

i am kinda scared to mess with the valves after I adjusted them on a craftsman T1600 with a briggs 19hp gold engine and the compression release got messed up, which appears too be too common on those. is it common for the compression release to get messed up on my briggs 16hp 283H07 engine or...

I have a craftsman LT1000 and when I start it with a NEW battery that wasn't on a maintainer, half of the time it just turns to when the flywheel gets tighter and the starter starts squealing. I'm not sure if the alternator is worn or the voltage regulator is blown ( i can't locate it anyway)...

just to clarify it only surges at the lower 1/3 or the throttle, at medium or high throttle it doesn't surge

the lever is disconnected from that shaft or something sticking up here

Thanks, finally got it started but it won’t move forward or backward and it might be because the parking brake lever is totally disconnected. Will post a pic of the broken assembly.
