One of the things I wish these muffler guys would do is cut some vertical bracing webbing welded between the flange and the muffler body. That's a hell of an overhang just sitting there bouncing up and down and vibrating cracks right into the muffler body and flange welds.

Gas in oil is highly unlikely. Your timing should be fixed but the coil to face is slightly variable. Make sure there is no rubbing of the flywheel against the coils. It'll still run but not the way the parts should be set up. Business card is a good approximation.

It's a 3/8" bolt...the head could be anything. The spec does not say 3/8" head.....

Highly unlikely the field failed as described. Starters are not fully sealed units. Dust and dirt make their way into the interior. Take the starter apart. Clean it out, blow it out, clean up the commutator, check brush length/condition, lubricate the plain bearings if so equipped and the shaft...

I have a magnetic flow sensor impeller that failed because of exfoliation of the core through rust.....so, that part about rust not affecting, depends.

Pay attention to the amp rating of the fuse that manages that circuit. If higher than the upgraded 10 amp switch then you should be good. If not, fuses protect the wiring not the devices attached .

Those who aren't "brand loyal" probably bought crap initially or didn't realize they've bought crap until it's too late. For some it's a progression based on what you can afford or unverified recommendations from others.

The PTO switch takes quite an amperage hit when activated so I'd look there. And the current to the clutch is all or nothing when the switch is thrown. I used to have the same problem but cured it mostly by adding this...

Non-electron familiar folks think fuses protect the device. Nope. They protect the wiring to the device.

Damn hard to replace carbon track when they are moulded into the coil housing. There is a screw in the cap that screws about 3/4" up into the cable...nothing gets "peeled back".

The Kawasaki coil wires are carbon track units and they have had problems with continuity before. Ask me how I know. The plug boot connectors are just crimped around the cable with a small spike penetrating the sheath to contact the carbon coated string. Check these as well. I have replaced mine...

Might better use silicone grease if you use anything at all. Dow Corning 111 is immiscible in fuels. Lots of other uses as it is also a food grade product.

Beating the hell out of the cups on reinstallation? Get an 1.25 inch PVC plumbing union. The big screw on cap fits over the cup up to the ridge and the top of the cup is protected by the top of the union. A hammer and a small length of wood.
