That sounds like a pretty neat tool actually. Never had a problem with the drill going wild but have had the socket stay with the motor and had to shut it down to get it off. We live dangerously here in Appalachia.

If your mower has an electric blade clutch you'll need the more powerful charging system. If not the smaller units will work fine. The dual amp sized system is one DC for recharge and separate AC winding for the headlights.

Probably a crankcase breather that vents into the air intake, would be some serious oil splashing with the mower on it's side and some oil could wind up about anywhere.

The brake pad mis-alignment and rubbing might be the noise. And you can spin each blade with the belt off and listen to the bearings. Should turn smooth and pretty quietly with good bearings. Check the small idler pulleys too. I'd get rid of the blade brake completely.

I believe this is the hydrogear g730 with 1" axles, weighs about 45 lbs, torque rating 250lbs, and is serviceable. Seems like a vast improvement over a K46 or 5X series. A K66 might have the edge over the HG unit though, but that gets into a big price adder I suspect.

If you can see any rotating part on the motor a cheap Harbor Freight hand held tach. would work for you. And that amp gauge might save you some grief at some point if the charging system would get weak and leave you stranded out in the field somewhere.

First thing is to hook that seat switch back up and see if it runs. Those switches sometimes have a trick circuit that can't be easily bypassed.

Not sure how that spindle is made but if all else fails take the nut off the top, disassemble, pull the shaft and blade out, take to a local shop and have them get it off. Cost a couple bucks. Our local NAPA shop eats this stuff up just for fun.
