First thing I would have checked are the injectors. Missing and smoke sounds like bad injectors.

It might be. Getting turned upside down may not have helped the needle valve in the carburetor. You might need a new needle and seat but you still need to keep the fuel shutoff valve closed any time the generator isn't being used as a precaution.

You couldn't have done anything to the valves by rolling it over. If you've had it running, there is no liquid remaining in the cylinder. If it has rubber engine mounts, did one of them break when it fell?

Sorry for being blunt, but if you have to ask for help finding the valve covers, you probably should not be adjusting the valves.

There are TWO TDC's--One is when the exhaust valve has just closed and the intake valve is just opening. You do not want to set the valves using THAT TDC.

If the engine doesn't have an oil filter, I'd change the oil after the first five hours, then annually if no more than 50 hours are are put on the mower per season. If you don't have an hour meter, you'll have to estimate how many hours you're using the mower per season.

I can't speak for new CC spindles with grease zerks but the old ones like I have are NOT sealed bearings. Each spindle has a pair of opposed tapered roller bearings and grease is fed to them via drilled passages in the shaft.

You should consider a mower with a horizontal crankshaft engine. Vertical crankshaft engines don't have the deep sump that horizontals do and lose lubrication if tilted too much, especially if low on oil. Scag, Grasshopper and Kubota make mowers with horizontal shaft engines but they are not...
