I have succesfully used a window fan laid on it's back across some scrap 2 x 4 s, put my can of carb cleaner, complete with carb right on top of the rig. Those cheap fans are never balanced and they will agitate the fluid very nicely. Works like a charm.

Inside the cleanest carb on the planet is a very small filter, it's bowl shaped. Work that filter out and clean it, as well as the area behind it.

The crankcase is overflowing with oil that is mixed with fuel because the main jet needle is stuck open. If smelling the dipstick is out of the question, take an oil sample to a lab where they can determine if there is fuel in the oil, but option 1 is much easier.

If this ever happens again...you can always buy the diode at an electronics shop, cut out the old diode, solder on a new one.

If none of this stuff has worked, I would get ahold of the seller and see if they perhaps still have the original carb. That can possibly be cleaned and reinstalled. Still glowing? Valve job.

I have seen spark plugs fail without any apparent reason, and only Champion spark plugs. But you get a crack in the insulator so small that you can't see it. Start the engine and everything is just hunky-dory until the plug heats up enough to expand the insulator which opens that crack a smidge...

This is definitely the answer, I've done this several times. Also installing the shut-off near the carb, then when you are done mowing you can shut the valve and let the engine starve, thus assuring no leaks on your garage floor.

You never want to replace the needle on it;s own. The needle and seat need to be replace as a pair.

Sounds like vapor lock, generally cured by replacing the gas cap. You can try cleaning it with soap and water, rinse the soap out and let it dry completely before trying again.

An engine will tell you what's wrong most of the time. To run, and engine needs fuel, air and compression. If your compression has weakened you will blow blue smoke through the exhaust. If you weren't getting fuel your plug would dry. You haven't mentioned the air filter, so I'd take that out...
