sounds more like one started to come apart and then got tangled in the others and took them all out. When you get them off check them to see if there are different bands wrapped around others, Just a thought . . . . .

how long is the bolt? Maybe thread it back in all but a 1/4 - 1/2", then smack the head of the bolt real good with the sledge to try and break up whatever has the hub set up . . . . . .

you'll need a helping hand here, while the deck is running, "carefully" take a long screwdriver and touch toward the center each rotating pulley and idlers. If the noise you're hearing changes, then you've probably found your culprit. But, as I've already stated - be carefully when doing this...

pull the starter rope easy a few times and then check the level again in about 10 minutes and see if the level drops on the stick. If it doesn't I wouldn't worry, just cross out that info on the page and mark in the correct amount.

I have a Ferris IS2600Z and so far it's been great. Plus if it should ever need engine work that's my son's forte' so I can get things done right but cheaper. you touched on something I meant to bring up earlier, i.e. "Torque wrench calibration". When was the last time folks had their calibrated? My son builds all kinds of engines for a living, and his are sent out every 6 months and recalibrated. When you're building $75k+ engines little things...

if I had to "guess" I'd say that it's because these dang bolts are similar to trying to get nuts of aluminum rims. It seems to take infinitely more torque to break them free than to tighten them down. Just a wild guess though . . . . .

if the bolt has rust on the inside threads you've got more of a problem than just a head gasket. If you're sticking a head bolt with rust on it back into the head then I dang sure don't want you working on any of my stuff ( . ) . . . . . .

89 octane gas is fine; but, if it's going to sit idle for an extended period of time then I'd run it dry and not leave any is the system anywhere. That ethanol crap loves to eats stuff up in the off-season . . ..

see if a friend/neighbor might have a deep-well socket in the proper size . . . oops, I meant to ask - have you sprayed in and around the socket with some WD-40 or something to help break it free from corrosion ???

how to check your head bolts to see if they've been over torqued. Take a regular nut the size of your bolt and try spinning it onto the bolt. If it goes on without and real resistance then go ahead and reuse it/them. If you have to use any amount of force to get it on then toss that bolt . . .

as already stated, use NEW quality head bolts, and torque as specified . . . . .

look under the fender wells and you should be able to see where it's mounted. Grab the right size socket and wrench and tighten away . . . . .

If the engine is clean, i.e. air filter clean and no debris clogging around the engine cooling fins (or under the shroud) it should be able to run all day long.....
