Just removed the bowl nut from the carb on the above noted mower as it was surging.....cleaned out orifices in the bowl nut so fluid was passing through all three holes freely.....re-assembled, and its still surging.....complete carb clean required?? Briggs and Stratton engine Thanks for any help.

I guess no one has had this issue.....almost 200 reads and no comments. I'm going to try threadlocker on the issue, as vibration was something I hadn't considered and the threads on the nut, and on the pivot arm look okay

Hi all, Just replaced the belt on the above captioned mower, and made sure all bolts were tight, however the rear left wheel keeps loosening and falling off. I suspect that the threads on the pivot arm may be stripped,but it shows no sign of this visually.....anyone else had this problem or have...

So to update that last statement....don't believe everything you're told, even by a Toro dealer. When I got home I sprayed Move It down the shaft and the driver spacer came out with a little persuasion....and there ,low and behold, was the key on the inside of the blade driver....the driver...

FYI....just came from the Toro dealer.....this blade driver has a driver spacer installed in the bottom....the little key is situated below the spacer which is why I couldn't see it. It is not designed to go into the keyway....this blade driver is friction fit.....

Thanks Guys...Star Tech .....you're right....mine looks exactly like the photo where the pulley is one piece with the blade driver. I guess I'll be ordering a new one :) I just thought there'd be at least some evidence on the inside face if there had been one.

Just replaced the belt on the above model, and noticed when I took all apart that the blade driver has no protrusion inside to fit the key way on the drive shaft. Just wondering if its sheared as I see no evidence of there having been one ....perhaps this is why it's not self propelling? Should...

Thanks ILENGINE...yes, that washer looks exactly the same.....I was confused by the location and didn't realize that the same washer was used in a different location. Appreciate your patience.

In the photo I've included, you're looking towards the body of the mower....so the wheel actually goes onto the axle after the pinion gear which is the held on by a circlip......so the wheel goes on from the bottom of the photo Where you describe the part you refer to is on the inside of the...

ILENGINE.....no, this is not the part or the location. These wheels have never been off the mower, and the current position of the fiber washer would be between part # 16 and 17....thats where its located on the opposite wheel.

Sorry Rivets....working on two mowers at once here and gave the wrong model and serial numbers.....old age sucks!!!! :) the washer is from a Model 20374 serial # 405360514...the washer still does not show on parts diagrams for this mower.....what would happen if I didn't replace it?? Thanks

ILENGINE.....pinion gear does indeed have two flat sides....this washer simply prevents dirt getting into the shaft bushing. Auto Doc....great idea, thanks

Hi all, Have replaced fuel filter, lines, plug, air filter and carb on the above captioned blower.....it started at first after the new carb, but now will not start. Anyone have an idea what H and L should be set at for this blower? Currently both out at 1 1/2 turns. Thanks

Hi guys.....quick update.... Bearing separator arrived yesterday, and pinion gear is on its way out!! Only problem was the drive screw in the center that actually does the pulling even tho pointy, was a little bit too wide for the rectangular hole in the end of the gear. I think I'll just file...

Hello.....drive on the above captioned mower does not work..... Belt is on both pulleys and seems firm Belt drives blade no problem Both wheels turn freely by hand when off the ground. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Thanks guys....you confirmed what I thought.....the spindle housing assembly comes with one bearing....the jack shaft is then past through that bearing, and a second one is then inserted from the bottom. Now all I have to do is get that sucker out of there so's I can put it in the right way.!!!

Thx sgkent...here they are. As you can see, the puller I used to try and move the carrier plate slipped and damaged the end of the jack shaft, but the last 1/4" of that thread was not needed so that can be cut.....at least I could possibly reuse the shaft. That just leaves the carrier plate...it...

So.....after soaking in vinegar for a month, I'm still not able to move the carrier plate on the jack shaft. anyone have any other suggestions apart from replacing both? Thanks.

Thx StarTech for the advice.....remains to be seen if after the vinegar soak anything moves....cant do anything till it comes apart.:-)

StarTech.....definitely a second bearing in the centre of the carrier plate...I've had it apart before.

sgkent....right on the jack shaft exactly where the rivets are but in the centre. No.....have not pulled the top bearing, but have two new bearings ready to go.

sgkent....no...there is a second bearing below that right in the centre of the carrier plate...thats the one thats seized, and i also think the plate itself ( which is supposed to move up and down on the jack shaft to adjust the hight) is also seized.

Hi Guys, Have a real problem here. Included in the photos is the drive shaft and carrier plate from a stihl wheeled trimmer. The machine hasn't been used for some time, and the bearing inside the carrier plate has seized. I've tried just about everything I can think of to break it...

Also, when I get this home how would I go about determining if it is indeed the crank that's the original problem... and is the crank replacement a job I could do if I've never done it before? Just trying to work out if this would all be worth it?

I've found a replacement crank in Australia that I could get to Canada for less than $100 by mail...take two weeks but best price I can find....probably made in CHI......NA! :cool:

But Hammer....in all honesty we did try just about everything else before I took it in....what else could it be if not the crank, and when I get it back is it worth tearing it apart to check? The cost of a new crank is $250....unless I can find a used bblower and get the parts off it. Maybe that...

Fish....obviously a difficult question without knowing what exactly is wrong with the crank, but is a crank fixable, or something that just simply gets replaced?
