    Your carb looks like it could be aftermarket like from amazon. An original briggs carb for that model would not use a brass seat.

    Try pulling your plug wires with rubber handle pliers while its running. If you pull one and it stalls then that side is your problem. Most likely no spark on one side. Surprisingly those kohlers run fairly well on one cylinder until its time to work.

    The intake push rod is aluminum and the exhaust is steel. it does make a difference so take note when reassembling

    If the starter is original thats probably the problem. the newer starter looks different. they have had many issues with starters on all the kohler courage engines.

    you need a camshaft. very common problem. in my shop we change a couple of those a week. the cam has a built in decompression valve that breaks off the cam. you also shouldnt keep running it like that because if one of the broken pieces gets jammed somewhere it shouldnt it could completely ruin...

    Question, is your spark plug looking real dirty when this happens? If so you could have an internal head gasket leak which would foul the plug as well

    Sounds like a safety swith or maybe the blades are engaged or possibly not in neutral.

    That is not too many hours for that engine but i would definitely use oil made for small engines because most of them have added zinc and i believe automotive oil does not

    Careful to not break the snap ring inside the transaxle. could cost you alot of money.
