Trouble shifting when clutch is engaged

If you have the parking brake engaged, yes, the belt should be loose. The OEM belt is designed to allow some slip, rather, it is not "grabby" to help prevent your issue. I can't be sure that will cure the issue, it's a maybe. Try this, put the transmission in high gear and very gently begin...

    CV490S Throttle & Governor Linkages

Max rpm's is 3,400 to 3,600 RPM's. Don't run it at 3750. Those engines are bulletproof and have plenty of power. I wouldn't mess with the governor until you get it running properly. Do you have a Tachometer to check it accurately?

Rough Idle - Dirty Carb or Something Worse?

Sounds like the automatic choke may be sticking closed or the carb is dirty. To check for the choke issue, pull the air filter off and start it, then look in the carb throat to ensure the choke is open. You will need either another person to hold the handle down or tie it to the handlebar so it...

Trouble shifting when clutch is engaged

Be sure it has an OEM transmission belt. I believe you are referring to; when the engine is running and you depress the clutch, it is extremely hard or impossible to shift. The reason is that the belt is not fully disengaged and is applying a slight load on the transmission pulley, the belt...

    Mower wont start

Good point, please clarify "won't turn over". Do you mean the engine is cranking but won't fire, or the starter isn't turning the engine when you turn the key to the start position? If the former, have you pulled a plug to see if it is wet with gas, meaning it's flooded, or dry, meaning it is...

    Tuff Torq 46

The TT K46 is used in front engine riding mowers designed to mow grass. They are a fine transmission but not made for heavy towing nor using implements such as a plow. A snow Blower should be fine, but I wouldn't put a blower on a lawn tractor, they don't work well with the small tires and...

What Paint for Craftsman Professional Deck?

You can pick the IH yellow here. It is a fantastic paint. They also have the Rust-oleum transport yellow that looks a bit darker. Alternately, you can find most Rust-Oleum paints in HD and Napa. Napa will also exact match if you bring in a paint chip off the deck. However, it doesn't lay down...

If it is in decent shape otherwise, I would try to source a replacement engine. Those are pricey machines new. A new Briggs twin will run you roughly 1k with shipping...your local husky dealer may save you some after all told, maybe not. Be sure to get a 16-amp alternator and fuel pump. It...

    Wont start. Bad pto clutch?

The OP stated that one of the rockers popped off the pushrod. However, that would mean that the compression should be okay since the valve remains closed. So, you have a good point HLW49, it could be both rods. However, in most cases, the engine will not rotate smoothly if the rod(s) have...

    Wont start. Bad pto clutch?

Did you check both cylinders? The valves need to be adjusted while you have the cover off. Valve clearance is about .003 for intake and .005 for exhaust. This needs to be checked on the compression stroke. You can use a small screwdriver through the spark plug hole to feel the top of the piston...

Tiger Cub Vanguard 23 HP Oil Leak

Are Kohler 7000 series good engines? What do you think?

It is a much better engine, the Courages were junk, particularly the 600cc singles. The KT has an emission compliance of 500 hrs., which says something about durability. Keep the oil changed and full, use synthetic 10w30 high mileage and you should be good. I've yet to see one fail.

    Wont start. Bad pto clutch?

Doesn't sound good...those Kawasaki's are decent engines...is the oil level okay? I would do a compression test first. Not sure what type of noise you heard but engine noises are generally not a good thing. How many hours on it? How long did it run before the noise?

Tiger Cub Vanguard 23 HP Oil Leak

Just hit it with an impact driver, just don't let it sit there and pound when installing. It is a nightmare to try and hold the engine from turning to torque it with a wrench. It is a 3/8" fine thread interference thread, grade 5. Grade 8 is too brittle to expand and contract with...

Craftsman riding mower had a hard time going up hills

Looks like that has a hydro-gear 3000 series, a fairly stout hydro. Do you have a link to the belt you purchased? Another test; from a stop, quickly push the forward drive pedal...does it accelerate quickly? Slowly? Did you have any issues before the belt/pulley failed? I'm guessing you...

    Replacement Briggs engine

You are correct regarding the flywheel on a lawn mower engine. Most modern mowers use a light aluminum flywheel and rely on the blade as a flywheel. Most will not run without the blade attached. That said, engines of that size are inexpensive at places such as smallenginewarehouse.com or you...

Kohler 7000 chokes and dies after running for short time.

Sounds like the needle valve or jets in the carburetor or a restricted air filter. Don't buy a new Kohler carb until you, or a pro shop, tries to repair it.
