Could be the belt. Sometimes the plastic bushings that support the drive shaft are so worn the transmission cannot compansate and the speed drops that way.

There is a deck belt and a belt that goes to the hydro tranny. If there is some issue with that belt it could affect the transmission performance

Is it worth fixing? Who knows. How much do you like it? Does it meet your needs? What did you pay for it? How much would a mower either new or used cost to replace this one cost? You have a Tuff Torq K51 transmission. Scout around for someone familiar with hydrostatic transmissions in your area...

Did you replace the plastic bushings On the drive shaft?

I looked close at these before going on with my JD,(mainly because of leaves and fall cleanup) and decided that the 75742 was easily worth the extra few bucks.

I've got to be careful though because my driveway is on a slight angle. The honda, pointing uphill would stay put. The Toro will fly down, lol. It actually rolls backwards!!

My fix was to sell the Honda and replace it with a Toro Super Recycler. Grease fittings on all 4 wheels. Plus now I can bag, mulch, or side discharge.

Most retail and dealers have a way to look up receipts. I'm thinking that Honda also goes by serial # so if you purchased in April it would easily be a serial # still under warranty.

Strongly recommend you video your tractor when this occurs since it's a new machine under warranty. Take video to your dealer and let them see what they think

The fitting is not black like the other fittings elsewhere. It is a silvery yellow zinc that is easily missed on the yellow wheel. It's there I saw an E180 yesterday while at Home Depot and did a double take and then found it.

Mystery solved. The fitting is on the wheel itself. If you are not seeing it just roll the tractor a bit and you will see it. That's also the reason it didn't show on the parts diagram for the axle assembly, because it's on the wheel.

The plastic bushing is only part of the problem. The drive shaft in this market is not heavily zinc plated as it is in other sales markets as we have learned from another forum member down under. So the drive shaft is very prone to rusting which causes burrs that dig into the plastic bushing...

IMHO you should always purchase all your parts and lube items from your servicing John Deere dealer. That way when you have a question on something you can ask them in person and build a relationship with your dealer.

I looked at the manual and I don't see a grease fitting where the arrow is pointing to the letter "B". All I see is the axle and a washer or cover where the axle attaches to the wheel. When I pull up the parts diagram for that area there is no lubrication fitting, (as Deere calls it) either.

Drive axle is very prone to rust. First thread is close to issues you're having. The entire rear drive system is under engineered IMHO for cost savings. It appears that the conditions that the machine operates in can contribute greatly to it's lifespan.

Bushings probably shot, axle made from cheap rusty metal from day one, it's junky.

IMHO if you get a Husqvarna or Cub you will have to baby the entire mower. They don't cut, bag, mulch, as well as the Deere. Get ready for belt slap, spindle replacement and warped decks. Not even close.

Have the bushings that support the drive shaft been replaced?

The drive cable is adjustable within the parameters of a properly operating drive system. Rust on the shaft in the areas of the bushings can play havoc on that system no amount of adjustment can compensate for it.

Did you verify the condition of the drive shaft and the bushings? Rusty shaft and worn bushings will cause adjustment of the drive cable to be way off
