Any suggestions on how to avoid mower tracks due to repetitive mowing along edges and borders, other than extending the weed eater path?

I just bought my first 2 stroke echo trimmer. I have used it quite a bit and now, when I try to start it or when it starts sometimes, it sputters and either shuts down or makes me work the throttle until I achieve proper rpm.
