    ok, i fixed one problem, over rich belching black smoke,,, now, i have an annoying surge...rpm rolls up and down, tried another nikki carb off my craftsman, whcih did not surge... same problem... i have adjusted governor, and checked linkages...could the springs be out of whack? i give up...help?

    Great, i closed up those holes in the transfer tube... not, it starts and runs clean.. but now i have picked up a 1/2 throttle surge... now what? i have set , and reset governor ,,,, could the governor spring be weak? this engine sat idle for quite a few years

    THAT was just my thought, i also have a Nikki carb on my DLT 25hp v twin. that particular carb has the white fuel transfer tube with 2 individual jets. i have some #9 shot in my reloading room, im going to plug those 2 passages and try it! thanks for the input

    yes i am about to tear this apart, i have 2 Broadmoors with tuff torq's in them. as a retired mechanic with 20 yrs worth of rebuilding automatic transmissions, im not 'afraid ' to tear into it, it's more being afraid of needing parts, that are obsolete...or way out of my social security income...

    I actually DID do just that, with no change... when it fires, it revs out of control. i have a parts engine,i am pretty sure the gov gear is toast... i just need time to tear the 2 down. but ty for the info!!

    i just want to mention, i am not one to believe a "small leak" is an acceptable one, i have plenty of 8-10 hp engines that leak Zero oil...i need to address this before i use it, or sell it.

    i had an idea how to add an o ring by drilling a recess in crankcase.., but it would require disassembly anyway, so, if im gonna do that... may as well replace worn parts...

    yes, i have in fact checked the breather for clogs, and drained and refilled crankcase right to top of threads... its a mystery how the oil can be "climbing" that high and running out...im going to do a leak down test on it, to make sure blowby isnt over pressurizing crankcase..ill post results

    at this point , i am thinking i need to split engine / generator and replace worn gov shaft and crankcase. the engine runs great, gen makes power. i realize there is no seal, or o-ring... and the shaft needs to swing freely. any ideas? am i on the right track replacing worn out crank case half...

    Update on the broken ex valve. when i finally went to put this head together, THIS popped into view. should have done a closer inspection BEFORE ordering parts. that cost could have went toward a good used head. oh well, never too old to learn! not sure if this happened when valve dropped, or if...
