It is most likely either the cheap recoil mechanism hanging up and dragging, or really bad connecting rod knock indicating engine wear and slop. Hard to say without being there in person.

Is the new ignition coil OEM or aftermarket? Compare the two coils with multimeter. Is the choke/run/stop lever working properly? Have you tried different spark plugs? How are you checking spark? Have you tried with and without kill wire attached to coil?

22 psi front and 12 psi rear sounds good. Visually look for grease zerks on spindles, front yoke, striping rollers, etc.

Typically hydro oil and filters need to be changed from 300-500 hours depending on brand, etc. Top off the oil and should be fine as long as no air was introduced. Being a bit low on oil in reservoir tank is not uncommon.

Would be interesting to hear how rebuild goes and if leaks are good long term. Never heard of White hydros before. If leaks aren’t that bad, best option is to run it and top off oil as needed.

The belt needs to be not touching the pulley or spindle you are testing. Turn the pulley or spindle slowly and quickly and listen and feel for bearing noise. It is an off brand, big box store battery mower that many shops don’t work on, including me. I only work on gas engines by choice.

I have seen these plastic transaxles hang up before in bypass mode. Rock the mower back and forth until it frees up to push.

You could use a grabber that is a few feet long and squeeze a handle that closes two fingers to pick up the dead tree limbs, so you don’t have to bend over. Other than that, it is just picking them up one after another. I have lots of branches that drop constantly.

The tab at the bottom left of picture is how you adjust RPMs by bending it. Need a tachometer to check and adjust as needed. The engine speed will not change when you pull the trigger on wand for water to come out, it will remain the same. Including the model number will be helpful.

Google “spark plug cross reference”, that’s how I do it. Sites will have the information.

Of course you have to go through the purging process. Just like with a brake system, no air can be in the system.

Yep, site is messed up.

It comes in squeeze tube like 80W-90 oil with small tip. It is thicker at normal temperature and then thins out when equipment is running and then thickens up as temperature returns to normal.

Try the purge procedure for hydraulic system. Jack up mower , put on jack stands, and go through purging process. Read online for details whether it is transaxles or hydro pumps.

Why did you install a new carburetor? Do you still have the OEM carburetor? First thing I would do is open the valve cover and do visual inspection and check/set valves to spec.

In order for a deck swap to be successful, without modification, you would need to take measurements. That can only be done accurately with both decks being side by side along with visual inspection.

It should fire right up. Is it starting and running ok now?

Probably not. Many mowers have specific deck set ups so that interchangeably of decks is not that easy, without modifying. John Deere is usually even more proprietary in parts interchanging easily.

Take off four engine mounting bolts, separate male/female wiring connections, take off ground wire and hot wire to starter, take of throttle/choke cables, remove PTO clutch and pulley, remove fuel line. How old is engine? How many hours on it? I wouldn’t remove engine and open up the case...

I suppose you could fit other transaxles with lots of modifications. I have tried it once on a John Deere and transaxle didn’t work even with modifications. Remember most of these units are not designed for heavy pulling or hilly terrain.

Hydro pumps and pump motors don’t suddenly go bad. So check hub as stated for starters.
