Felt like it had compression when I first pulled the rope. I reinserted the valve seat and pinged around it. It started up and runs fine. Is this just a temporary fix, or will it last for a while?

I just took the head off and the intake valve seat had popped out. Can that be fixed ?

I used an inline spark tester. Just did compression test, showed 0 zero. needle did not move.

Tried spraying starter fluid through carb, didn't do anything. Have not done compression test yet.

Was just given a Toro self-propelled mower with a 190 cc briggs motor. Guy said it stopped running while he was mowing. Has compression and spark, makes a popping sound. Checked and the flywheel key is good, not even off a little bit. Could it be the plastic cam lobe moved on the cam shaft...

I gave up on that motor. I picked up a rusted out mower with a good motor and swapped it over. Thanks for all the advice.

yes, has the metal tab, moving it doesn't change rpm when it is running slow after it is hot. It increases rpm when the motor is cold.

I don't think the linkage is not the problem. It runs fine when it is started when it is cold. The running slow only happens when the motor is warm.

Checked the fuel line, getting good flow. Had previously cleaned the tank. Replaced the thermostat on the exhaust with another used one, no change. Think I will give up at this point. Maybe use as a parts mower. Thank you everyone for all the suggestions.

Sorry, haven't been able to get a video loaded. It started up fine and mowed today, about half way through the yard it popped a couple times and died. When restarted it just ran slow.

Swapped the carb for one from a good running mower. Mowed the yard fine. But when shut off it would not restart. After sitting for about 10 minutes it would start but would only run slow, never went to full speed. I have a video of it running slow, will try to post it.

I think I figured it out. I found a clearer parts diagram online and found out I was missing a belt keeper near the main crank pully. Ordered the part, hopefully that will solve my problem.

Yes, the primer bulb had no hole.

Fixed. Previous owner replaced primer bulb with the wrong one. I replaced with the correct one and mower runs great. I did not know that there were different kinds.

Took the carb bowl off and cleaned, sprayed the jets. Still pops. Should I take carb completely apart and clean, replace jets?

Forgot to mention guy said it was running fine til he ran out of gas. When it started to run bad he replaced fuel filter and fuel pump. Maybe dirty carb?

I adjusted the cable so that it is at it's longest and the self-propel still works, but still have the same problem. Will check the drive gears, and look for a new belt.

Recently bought a used Toro model 21352. Runs great, self-propel works, but mower will not let me pull backwards while it is running. As soon as I shut it off, it rolls freely. It is like it will not release tension on the belt . Looking for ideas to fix. Thanks

Picked up a Craftsman YT4000 with 24hp Briggs that was running poorly and popping etc. Cylinder 1 intake valve was too loose, and exhaust valve was way, way too tight. Runs fine after adjusting them. Was just wondering what causes them to get so far out of adjustment. Only has 170 hours on it.

No, don't have the room to work on it this winter, I think I will take it apart next spring and see if the pump is bad.

Took off the exhaust, the port looked good. I ran it for a couple minutes without the exhaust and it still spit gas out of the primer. I guess I might just have to use it that way.
