some say crankshaft gear. My 120000 series mower has a crankshaft, and a slide on gear that has its own key. Some may have the gear cast into the crankshaft, or perhaps a different way to mount the gear based on the list above. Need to look it over carefully.

you might look for a part number on your flywheel, and check the parts list for your briggs engine to see it is the right one. Maybe someone swapped it out and because it would not start got rid of it. Have you ever seen this mower run?

as others said - is it having trouble spinning, or trouble running even though it spins freely. If the valves are gapped looser than spec, the compression release will be less effective.
