It was a bad battery. Somewhere last year I replaced the stator also. Everything is good now!

Yes, bushing worn - GONE! I'll need to replace these plastic bushings once a season I expect!

Thank you! Was the bushing! I wish they made them in brass, it would last longer than plastic! I plan to check them during the season but expect to replace them once a year. (With this property I'm rough on a riding mower!)

The red was easy to remove when I re-adjusted the valves. Evidently the compression release was going bad. It went all bad and wouldn't crank. Paid a small engine repairman to fix it. I used it 7 hours in first mow of the season. I'm happy. :)

I had no problem with red. Came off easy. HOWEVER - I admit I should have used the grey, or rather light grey.

Yep, must admit I was wrong. Red worked and was easy to get off - BUT - I should have used the gray!

This is so simple but I have to write it. Make sure you have fresh gasoline. I've seen several videos of repair people fixing problems by having fresh gas.

It most likely was the solenoid. I was worried about that screw so I spent $25-30 for online replacement carb. Replaced fuel filter, drain tank, rinsed, dried, refilled. It's run fine till recent. Then I smoked the alternator! Now to fix that!

But the mower would crank! If it sat for a long period then it would crank and run for hours. It just would not crank when turned off - unless left sitting for many hours or overnight. Right now I'm thinking it the fuel shut off solenoid at bottom of carb.

I received a new fuel stop solenoid. With 9 volt battery and a couple of short wires I verified the new solenoid works and the old one does NOT! Replaced it on carb. Now I'm waiting on replacement screw that broke trying to put in replacement carb! It's still a journey!
