That did the trick. I finally got it started! I set a pretty tight(I think) clearance of .004" and was/almost impossible to stick.006" in. Based on that 'description', what clearance would you all call that? Anyway, on to another issue. Thanks again!

I have what looks like a cover on the lower left side of the engine. I was wondering if that cover can simply be unscrewed and replace with an oil filter? M/N 4076770 258E1 Thank you in advance!

I will shim the pulley with a couple washers for good measure, leave the pulley in the right hole, and see what happens. In the left hole the pulley can't really float with the tension sooo tight... Thank you!

I think I will shim the pulley up 2-3 washers, just for good measure... The left hole is the original hole for the idler pulley bracket, but the tension is VERY tight in that hole. Previous history - my belts weren't lasting very long, but I didn't have the belt guards on so I'm guessing that...

Thanks! I saw that before, but those steps assume the engine is running and measuring volts or amps, not resistance. After I got it started I put a volt meter on the battery and the voltage was slowly climbing from about 13.2 so that showed me that it was charging... I got very lucky...
