Just an update. It turns out that the replacement cup I installed had a different height and the pawls would not catch the cup. Installed the old cup and the replacement recoil and all is good now.

One roadblock is that the recoil assembly is discontinued on any website I checked.

Thanks for the feedback. The pawls on both the original and the replacement are metal but I suspect both were not coming our far enough. Maybe because they are gummed up. Unfortunately for me I already dropped off the mower at my local shop for them to have a look at it. I'll update the post...

You could try a different oil in the fuel mix. I used to use Lawnboy oil exclusively but switched to Shell Nautilus 3 years ago and smoke is only a bit at start up. https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/shell-nautilus-premium-outboard-oil-0281770p.0281770.html

Did you inspect belt....stiff or cracked may be the issue or maybe the pulley is loose/worn.

Well that was a self learning experience. Out of 4 recoils in my stock pile....2 were toast...of the other 2 one had metal wings that pop out when you pull the cord and the other was plastic which I can only assume was a knock off. Anyways it will be interesting to see what is on my back up...

Does it have a vented gas cap....plugged?

Or start checking for a cheap used 10515 and swap the engines over. I would also remove the cylinder head and see if the piston is moving when you try to start it. If its a broken rod its probably not worth fixing.

I don't see why not. I have in line fuel shut offs on both of my 10525's.

Unfortunately every site I go to shows a pic of the 89816 upgraded bag with the 3 holed handle and different attachment to the chute.

That's where I got the part # 89816 in my last post. Unfortunately there is no picture of the part and they will not ship to Canada.

Close but mine has no handle. There is just a cloth strap that hangs on the wire frame mounted to the handlebars and the chute has no handle....just a rectangular wire frame built into the end with a slot that the chute clip mounts to.

A week later. Well I guess I know what's going on with both of my 10525's now. Turned on the fuel valve and then a couple of pumps on the primer bulb. Both mowers started on the first pull. Looks like both of them need a needle and seat in the carb. Put it on the list!
