I have 5 hp B&S flathead on my a tiller. Gas tank is gummy, varnished, but no rust. There is a plastic insert in the tank. Never seen this before. I've tried all kinds of stuff to clean it. Laquer thinner, acetone, denatured alcohol, etc., even a bit of the solvent in my carb cleaner...

I'm changing the fluid on my 318. Operator's Manual says Ford Type F, Technical Manual says JD HyGard. Last time I did fluid on my old 314 called for Type F and it was red. The HyGard I just put in my Z925 is not red. The fluid I drained from my 318 is red, so it is probably Type F. But...

My newly acquired 318 had a busted taillight. Deere wants $22 for a replacement, used on ebay are even more. I found these on ebay, they fit perfect, and what I saved is going into LED bulbs fore and aft.

Are the holes circled in the attached photo actually used? Ain't nothing to screw them to, no other unused holes for a connecting part, parts diagram shows screw and push nuts in the rear holes, but not these.

This hitch plate thingie is weird. Cant find it in JD parts. Is this part of a 3 pt hitch? Is this after market?

Just picked up a 318 with 481 hours (supposedly). I see according to TractorData there are 2 different engines. Onan B43G from 1983 to 1986, and Onan P218 from 1987 on. P218 starts at S/N 1420001. My S/N is M00318X1:14286. Never seen a Deere S/N like this. Trying to figure out what plugs...
