Valve Cover Liquid Sealant

Something else to look at is some RTV sealants do not recommend using in the presence of oil. Some are designed for oil and other chemicals, and some are designed to seal water pumps. Need to read the packaging.

I am hoping to reuse the valve cover on the HRN since they are now $34 compared to my HRR that are only $18. I know Honda does not want the covers reused but if you check the valves every year like they say and add in the other yearly service items, the cost is getting crazy.
 
Great news! You can now buy Honda valve cover gaskets from Amazon. I found them last week and order a couple just to try out and after using one I can tell you that they work fantastic. The ones I bought also came with an o ring so you can replace the one on the cam shaft. It is so much easier than trying to get the right amount of sealant on the cover and holding your breath that it doesn't still leak. I wholeheartedly recommend doing it this way.

This is great news. Keep me (us) updated to see how it works out. Now to check if the cover on my 170 will work on the160 cover.

The equipment market is no longer pro-repair (especially after Covid), so manufacturers price most parts up in the stratosphere to make up for lost profits from years past. This makes people mad, so they reluctantly end up buying more new equipment. It's a strategy being used across many industries these days. Regardless the manufacturers win.
When you add all the tariffs and import taxes, parts are not getting any cheaper.

I tell me customers that you can't afford to fix it, and can't afford to replace it.

The cost of everything, across the board, has gone sky high since the pandemic. How the average person with a few kids is making it in today’s economy is tough. I believe a lot of people are swimming in debt.

I believe a lot of people agree with your thought. It is tough for those starting out or families that have kids, especially if daycare is needed. Every time I pass a gas station I wonder how much the price has jumped. When food shopping, the prices change each visit. Now to be fair, some prices have come down but not to the point where the price was before the start of the increases.

The last few articles I read had the personal debt at the highest it has ever been. A personal notes - I have several friends in different age groups who have a high debt ratio compared to income. What I find very disturbing is they have not changed the living lifestyle. I have one friend who has lived in his house for over twenty-five years and when he max out his credit cards he refinances the house to pay the cards. He mentioned that if things get too tough he will just walk away from his house (and mortgage payment). Now he has little to no equity in the house so not too big of a loss for him.

Back to mowers, lately, I have been looking for non functioning mowers to strip useable parts. I am not fixing mowers as a business just trying to help out neighbors, friends and family and help them with a free repair.
 
Save yourself from present & future headaches and get a solid (cast aluminum) valve cover and a "real" gasket.

You'll have to look around for replacement bolts as this cover uses same thread size, just a tad longer. Seems like an inch will do, but I just don't remember right now.

Yea..they are an inch in length: M6 x 1.0 x 25 mm
