Picked up a well used Honda HRN 216. Not sure of the mower’s background.
The transmission and engine were not working. I got the engine running and found the drive belt would not move at all. After removing the belt, I found a piece of mulch tightly wedged in the transmission pulley. Thought that was the issue. Changed the belt and put everything back together. Still no luck. When changing the belt I made sure the transmission’s pulley nipples were lined up.
What I checked:
The smart drive paddles are working and the transmission cable is moving to engage belt to the pulley. The paddle tension when moving it seemed to be light compared to my HRR mower.However, the cable was moving the transmission arm.
The transmission pulley is not locked up and if I rotate the rear axle the transmission pulley will spin.
The belt has tension when the smart drive paddle is depressed. The drive cable is at its max on adjustments
Not sure if the belt on engine pulley is engaging the belt or if the belt is just spinning on the pulley. What is a good, safe way to check this?
Thought the bearings on the axles might the issue but like I said the wheels did turn when the I turned the axle by hand.
I am thinking the engine pulley or the drive cable might be stretched, but again the cable is engaging and tightening the belt.
Double checked the belt number I purchased and had the dealership double check and it is the right Honda replacement belt.
