Won't run under load

Snapper zero turn with briggs 26hp model 445877 had issue with high idel. Installed a spring on linkage. Mowed couple hours fine. Now takes a minute to get it started, after it does start when engaging deck it dies out. Also cables get warm when trying to restart. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance
 
What is the "spring" you installed on the linkage? Can you provide a couple of pictures?

Did you possibly attach to the choke linkage and not it is being held wide open.

Don't crank for extended time because it will damage the starter eventually.
 
yes - what spring? was this one that rotted away, or was it one that was an attempt to solve something else? a cylinder that needs to be choked, or one that is choked and doesn't need it won't run well.

I would spray a mist of water, or use an infrared temp gun on both exhausts when it is running to verify that both cylinders are firing. Many times a high idle could be a vacuum leak.

He put a spring on the throttle linkage so it would hold it at idel. Just spray a little water on the exhaust coming off each side? Burns off they're firing then
 
The left side is not producing power according to the temp reading. Check for spark output on that coil using and adjustable air gap spark tester. The cheap light bulb type spark testers are not reliable.
 
One could use an old inductive timing light to "see" spark down the plug wire.

Doesn't mean there is enough spark to run. Need an open gap tester or a simple 12 volt DC test light. Need minimum 0.25" spark jumping gap to run.
